Mark Newton - WILD South Australia
Iridomyrmex sp. cf. roseatus
This species keys out using Heterick and Shattuck (2011) to I. roseatus, but was found in Morgan SA, quite a long way south of its known distribution and therefore may be a different undescribed species or possibly just a more southerly example. It fits with the ecological description in that it behaves very much like I. purpureus, but it is only about half the size and nowhere near as dominant and at least where I found it, it appears uncommon.
